I haven't noticed any overheating on the charger brick and it charges at about the same speed as my old cable (I'm currently charging while watching videos at full brightness and the battery's at 40%, and the laptop says it'll be 1 hour and 5 minutes until it's fully charged-no complaints there). The orange charging light seems to be brighter than my old cable, but that might just be because my cable was super old, I'm not sure.
I ordered the L-style tip 85W Type 1 charger and it worked like a dream. APPLE OEM 60W l 85W Magsafe 1 Power Adapter Charger For MacBook Pro l Air - 19.81. I thought I was going to have to get a new laptop, which sucked because I'd upgraded some things in my Macbook Pro (like the battery and RAM) and it was still working perfectly fine. The brick charger was 9 years old and had stopped charging most of the time and I couldn't find a replacement charger that came direct from Apple. Apple recommends using a 60 watt power supply for macbook airs as the 85 watt is designated for the MacBook Pro. No behavioral changes on my end (if anything I move this laptop around less than I did when I got the first unit in 2018!). I am just worried about this batch of stock at this point to have 2 units fail in less than 2 years for various reasons. So anyway, I didn't push for another RMA and ponied up for a new unit. So the magnet part is still in the port of my macbook and a little piece of plastic plops out and have the exposed pins on one end of the charger. Fast forward to today (blaaaack friiiiday) and I pop that sucker in my macbook and notice the charging light isn't on I go to pop it off and reseat the thing and the stinking magsafe part falls apart. Apple iMac A1311 21.5 205W Power Supply 2009 2010 2011 614-0444 614-0445. No biggie, the support here set me up with an RMA and got me a replacement unit and it works just fine. Last year I ordered this unit from OWC/Macsales around July and mysteriously in February it died. NovemSo after my original brick from Apple lasted 7+ years it finally bit the dust.
